STRAY CAT FOUND WITH RABIES IN AREA!
Please be advised that a stray Cat found on Wheatland Road, Marshall Township, Allegheny County has tested positive for Rabies. This Stray Cat has been in this neighborhood for over a year. He was a large white unneutered male with gray patches and partially missing a left ear. He appeared to be over 5 years of age. A bite wound was noticed on his paw approximately two weeks ago. It was noted that he also had a wound on his back during the summer months. He was being fed by a homeowner when they noticed that he was lethargic and not moving for two days. The cat was brought into the garage to force feed. His health deteriorated quickly and he was taken to the veterinarian for euthanasia. Two people are receiving post exposure rabies vaccination. No domestic animals were exposed at this location. This would make a 2nd rabies case in the area recently. Please make sure ALL pets, even indoor only cats are vaccinated against rabies.
